L-arginine is a coded amino acid in protein synthesis and is one of the eight essential amino acids for the human body. The body needs it to perform multiple functions. For example, it stimulates the body to release certain chemicals, such as insulin and human growth hormone. This amino acid also helps remove ammonia from the body and promotes wound healing. The body also needs it to produce sarcosine. When L-arginine is decomposed, nitric oxide is produced, which can dilate vascular diseases and increase blood flow.
Under normal circumstances, the body itself can produce enough L-arginine. But when it is insufficient, it can be supplemented by eating foods rich in arginine. L-arginine can be found in any food that contains protein. Foods rich in arginine include almonds, walnuts, dried sunflower kernels, dark chocolate, chickpeas, melons, peanuts, raw lentils, hazelnuts, Brazilian nuts, red meat (moderate), cashews, pistachios, Soybeans and walnuts.
